Freedom within Order
I am currently trying to read through the Bible in a year. This morning, as reading through Exodus, I was impressed with the way God took His people out of slavery from the Egyptians and gave them freedom in Him. Yet he gave them laws, rules, and instructions on just about every aspect of life. After giving them the Law, He gave exact measurements and a materials list for building the temple to house His Covenant and laws – to house HIS HOLINESS. I am amazed at the details of this blueprint, all the way down to the nails, bolts, hinges, rings, and exactly what they were to be made of. Yet with all of this detail he allows man the freedom to be creative within His “order.” He allows for the craftsman to do what they do best. I love how God loves us so much that He sets the standards for us to live by and yet allows us our own perspective and freedom for creativity.
He tells us, very clearly, how we should treat each other, yet He allows us the freedom to express our care for each other in different ways. He gives the rules of engagement, but the method may look different for each couple.
